the red flag reporting points for VFR flight do not show up? How do I turn them on?
Update: We are testing a new version of the Flight Planner that will include VPxxx waypoints. Expecting a release in the next few weeks barring any significant issues discovered in testing.
The Jeppesen base charts that are used by the AOPA Flight Planner currently do not have the option to display VFR reporting points. This is something on our development list to add to the Routing overlays group.
This would be helpful for VFR aircraft to plan through/around Class B airspace.
Can't believe that VFR reporting points (VPxxx) are still not shown on the maps!
VFR Reporting points (unlike VFR Waypoints) are not provided in a database by the FAA. These are graphical-only elements that are manually added to the VFR sectional charts by the printing office. We have been told that the FAA is planning to deliver these points in a database sometime in 2019. Once they are available in data-form, then flight planning tools like the AOPA Flight Planner that use data-driven charts, will be able to display them.
On a related note, Jeppesen is on-track to provide VFR Waypoints a little later this year. These are published by the FAA and are becoming more common in the national airspace system.
VFR Waypoints have a 5 character identifier starting with "VP" while VFR Reporting points have a pronounceable name and are shown on charts by a magenta flag symbol.
Eric - I am confusing the VFR reporting points and waypoints. What I want to see in the flight planner are the VPxxx points. These appear in ForeFlight and in my Android GPS app (Naviator). Don't know why they wouldn't appear in the AOPA flight planner. Missed a setting perhaps?
The VPxxx waypoints will be integrated into the Flight Planner by Jeppesen in a future release. They are making progress and hoping to have a new version with these waypoints well before the end of the year.
