Winds aloft table / altitude selector

Anonymous 3 years ago updated by Eric.Rush (Project Lead) 1 year ago 8

Would like to see a table of various altitudes that shows wind direction, velocity and estimated flight time and fuel usage. This will help selecting the optimal altitude for a flight.

Answer

A new version of the Flight Planner was released on July 18th that includes a Route Wind Optimizer and Assignable Altitude Per-Leg. In addition, this new version also displays Start of Climb, Level Off and Start of Descent points on the Chart and NavLog. Additional NavLog enhancements have also been made to display common communication frequencies for the departure and arrival airports, a HOBBS and TACH IN/OUT log and IFR Clarence fields when the type of flight is IFR.

Enhancements to the Nav Log

Anonymous 3 years ago updated by Eric.Rush (Project Lead) 1 year ago 15

I have a simple suggestion to make the Nav Log more user friendly:

1. When displaying and printing the NAV Log, there should be an option to automatically fill in the frequencies for the waypoints and destination airports contained on the log. While one could print and then fill-in this information by hand, it seems that the application ought to be able to do it automatically.
2. A bit harder, but still doable: On the NAV Log, there should be an option to allow pilots to add comments/notes prior to printing. Each flight is unique, and pilots have many varying needs/interests. The Nav Log is the one place where pre-flight "notes-to-self", can be made alongside critical route information. Often this might be cut-paste info such as pattern direction, pattern altitude, alternate frequencies, local landmarks, etc. But it might also be user specific info such as flight instructor advice, passenger and cargo data, WDC ADIZ procedures, etc.

Altitude Adjustments

Frederick W 3 years ago updated by Eric.Rush (Project Lead) 1 year ago 4

I thought I saw this here already but can't find it. The ability to change leg altitudes since not all legs are flown at the same altitudes.

Weather Along Route Tool - Beta Feedback

Eric.Rush (Project Lead) 3 years ago updated 3 years ago 33

Please use this topic to report any issues, suggestions or general feedback on the new Weather Along Route tool in the flight planner. We have launched this new overlay/tool as a beta and are looking for user feedback so we can improve it if needed before finalizing the interface design.

There is a video tutorial HERE for details on how the tool works.

Integration with Avare EFB

Kevin L 3 years ago updated by Fred B 3 years ago 2

Avare EFB is an excellent flight planner for Android, best of all it is Free(Donation requested). Sending flight plans to Avare would be helpful.

Answer

If you are a user of Avare (or any EFB type product that you would like integrated with the Flight Planner), please also submit a request directly to the app developer and let them know you would like to have an integration with the AOPA Flight Planner. We have contacted most all of them last year when we started the integration process so they already know we are willing to work with them. Having their users contact them directly with this request might help get the integration completed. It takes both us (AOPA) and the app developers to work together.

Also... keep posting your votes here for integration requests and we can let the developers know how many people are interested!

Recently assigned routes / preferred routes

Anonymous 3 years ago updated by Mike S 1 year ago 7

Would like to have the ability to select a recently assigned route when creating an IFR flight. Also having a list of the preferred routes from the AFD would be a big help too.

Answer

Having recently assigned routes is planned. Expecting to have this feature implemented this summer.

Nav Log show toc and tod

Rob B 3 years ago updated by Eric.Rush (Project Lead) 1 year ago 4

I am not seeing top of climb and top of descent on the nav log. Sure would be helpful if your wonderful little tool could help me figure out when I should start my descent given that I told you everything about my aircraft, you have the winds aloft and the airport elevation.

STARS and SIDs

Robert S 3 years ago updated by Scott H 2 months ago 4

Foreflight has a fantastic feature allowing you to see the STARs into your destination and then select the transition and approach you expect, adding all that to the flight plan and NavLog.

Sure hope you'll pay them the ultimate compliment of imitating them :)
